The Top Ten Reasons To Invest In A Higher Education:

If you are at the crossroads of High School and your future, you have probably heard a lot about continuing on to higher education. Maybe you are wondering whether or not it is for you. Perhaps you don’t know if you will be able to afford it. Is it worth the investment? Will it really pay off in the end to spend so much money on college? As you ask yourself these questions, keep in mind that there are many benefits of attending college that you should remember. The following are ten reasons why investing in a higher education is a smart choice.

  1. Making More Money. Depending on your college major, you could be earning double what your friends who didn’t go to college are earning. Studies have shown that by retirement, those who did go to college will be making on average about $46,000 more than those who did not graduate from college. Simply having your college and graduation on your resume will give you an advantage over others who might be applying for your same job.
  2. Meeting People. Whether you are looking for a spouse, or if you are simply looking for some good company for the weekends, college is a great place to meet people. Especially if you find your spouse there, it could be one of the best investments ever made.
  3. Happiness. Studies have shown that on average, college students have a higher level of self esteem, which results in more happiness. Of course, this can be achieved in other ways as well, but the feeling of accomplishment that comes from attending and graduating from college cannot be met.
  4. Networking. In addition to meeting someone who you might marry, or meeting some new friends, you will also meet a diverse group of people with whom you can keep in touch with for future business endeavors. Depending on your major, you will probably work with other students whose careers could benefit your own. The professors who you study under will also have a network of professionals that they can get you in touch with when it is time for you to do an internship or find a job.
  5. Finding More Opportunities. A college degree opens up a lot more opportunities for someone when they are looking for a job. Even with a great skill or years of experience in your area of expertise, a lot of employers require a degree.
  6. Creating Good Habits. When you are in college, you will be given deadlines and assignments that might be difficult to meet and complete. Beginning in High School, you probably had to create some good study habits. Into college, it will become more intense, and because you have a financial investment in your studies, you might be more likely to follow through. This creates some good habits for when you enter the workforce.
  7. Gaining Knowledge. You don’t just have to do classes that are a part of your major. If you find that you have time in your schedule, you can take a class or two that are of interest to you. Sometimes adding one or two extra classes will get you a discount on your tuition and will also give you some extra knowledge. If you are majoring in Engineering, but you are interested to learn more about painting, you can take an introduction to painting class and gain some additional knowledge.
  8. Having Fun. College can be fun if you know where your limits are and when you should stop. Moving on in life can be stressful to many people and taking some time to join a school club, a fraternity, or a sorority could be just what you need. Without being enrolled in college, your options might be more limited.
  9. Greater Skills. When it comes to life skills, and even intellectual skills, you can gain more by attending college. College teaches you to deal with people in healthy ways, follow through on commitments, limit yourself, give yourself freedoms, write better, and much more.
  10. Making Your Dreams Come True. Everyone has dreams when they are young. Someone dreams of becoming a famous basketball player, while someone else is going to be the most popular pop singer of all time. As they get older, their dreams might change. They might decide to design basketball shoes or create a new technology for stage performances. Unfortunately, without a college degree, many of those dreams do not come true. A college degree gives people the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

As you decide what you are going to do now that High School is coming to a close, consider these ten reasons to invest in higher education and make the right choice.

Our higher education system is one of the things that makes students exceptional. There's no place else that has the assets we do when it comes to higher education. People from all over the world aspire to come here and study here. And that is a wonderful thing.
