Session 1: Clear Oral Communication

  • Every idea has some someone doing some form of action 
  • Thinking “action” and identifying who did the action
  • Every sentence begins with a thought
  • Understanding the mechanics of good writing:
  • Checking your sentences for agreement
  • Spot the mistakes exercise
  • “Tell Me Why” Activity

Activity: Participants will craft sentences relating to a presentation.

Session 2: Getting Ready To Make a Presentation

  • Types of presentation
  • Knowing and anticipating your audience’s need for information
  • Choosing the right vocabulary that appeals to, excites and impresses the targeted audience
  • Learn how to anticipate questions and use the answers to give your presentation more impact
  • Prepare and write a presentation:
    • Topic sentence
    • The building blocks of a paragraph
    • Coherence

Activity: Participants will start organising information and writing their presentation.

Session 3:  Show Time – Delivering a Presentation

  • Using your voice to maximum effect
  • Pacing your delivery
  • Using the right tone
  • Projecting the right body gestures

Activity: Participants will do their presentation. The presentation will be recorded.

Session 4: Writing Correctly and Proofreading

  • Selecting the right vocabulary that suits the audience
  • Concorde
  • Checking the tone of the text

Session 5: Writing Short Reports and Memos

  • Lay out of report and memos
  • Selecting relevant information 
  • Passive writing vs. active writing

Session 6:  View and Feedback on Practical Presentation

  • Essential components of an oral presentation
  • Identify the good points of the presentation you have seen
  • Identify the areas of the presentation that can be improved

Session 6:  Writing Letters

  • Letter of Enquiry
  • Letter of Acknowledgement
  • Letter in respond to a complaint 

Session 7: Putting It All Together

  • Review and consolidation exercises
